LAKE DISTRICT LAVENDER
Grown, distilled, bottled and blended in England.

The Lake district's only Lavender grower. It’s got the weather in every drop.

ORIGIN

South-facing fells, Lyth Valley,Westmorland.

METHOD

 Estate-distilled, copper still.

PRODUCTION

Grown with consideration. Characterised by harvest.

In 2020, as the world stood still, our founder returned to the Lake District. Drawn back to the drystone walls, rolling fells, and the wide-open skies of her childhood.

Lockdown became the unexpected permission to act on a long-held vision. She discovered a neglected 30-acre farm — dilapidated, disused, and waiting. In that emptiness, she saw clearly what it could become.

The ambition was determined: leave this patch of earth better than we found it. To honour traditional Lake District farming while breathing new life into the land. Create something that gives back — to the soil, to the ecosystem, to the beauty of this World Heritage landscape.

She was not yet a farmer. She understood projects, vision, and building from nothing. The question was what could thrive here — something that would honour both past and future.

The answer arrived in a plant that most thought had no business growing this far north. As a regular visitor to France, she had nurtured over 200 plants for eighteen years, learning their temperament, their resilience, their secrets. Lavender, it turned out, was the answer.

THE QUESTION

Could lavender survive here?

The Lake District’s temperamental weather; frost, persistent rain, an unpredictable northern climate; is not the obvious home for lavender. The sceptics had good reason. First just 35 plants in the field. Then a wider trial, supported by the Lake District National Park. Lake District Lavender is the only lavender grown in the Lake District. The results surprised even those who doubted.

THE DISCOVERY

Hardy by nature. Unique by place.

With careful attention and the right exposure; south-facing slopes, well-drained soil, a specific relationship with mineral ground; our lavender not only survived, it became something different. The crisp fresh fell air. The mineral water beneath the hills. The particular quality of northern light. Combined with only the simplest, finest ingredients and you find, all of it in every drop we distil.

THE INTENTION

Lavender taken seriously.

The field, ‘Lake District Lavender’ came first. Everything else follows from it. We are building something different: LYTHLEY is fresh, modern lavender from our Estate.  With the ethics of a farm and the restraint of a vineyard, located in the Lyth Valley, National Park and World Heritage site. With the ambition of a design house, We grow what we sell. We distil what we grow.  The field is in the product.
